Program Overview
Recognizing the importance of women in leadership, and the unique challenges women face in their paths to becoming top leaders, this special topic course is being offered in the Leadership and Counseling Higher Education program at Eastern Michigan University. The course is designed to inspire and empower women to seek leadership position in higher education administration. This 5 day experiential education course will take place June 17-21th, in Washington, D.C. Students will have the opportunity to meet and learn from top female leaders, across many different sectors in higher education who are currently initiating and driving change in our nation’s capital. Students will also have an opportunity to explore colleges and universities in the area to compare and contrast organizational structures and their potential impact on leadership.

On-Campus Class Meetings
This course will meet on main campus for one mandatory class meetings before we travel. The dates and location for the class meeting will be announced to accepted students.

Instructor Information:
Dr. Carmen McCallum is an Assistant Professor in Leadership and Counseling at EMU. She has almost 20 years of experience working in various positions in higher education. Part of her research focuses on mentoring (especially students from underrepresented groups) and understanding pathways to leadership in higher education. She is delighted to have an opportunity to share with you her experiences navigating the academy and looks forward to you joining her in Washington D.C.

Allison Boone Green, is a full-time Lecturer and advisor in the LEAD minor at Eastern Michigan University. Prior to her work at EMU, she lived and worked in Washington, D.C. She now enjoys returning to the city to help connect students with new people and opportunities.
