Program Description:

Multimedia Journalism in New York City

nyc daytime Course:  CTAT 279
Credits:  3
Eligibility:  Open to all EMU and Guest students in good academic standing. College students must be 18 years old at the time of travel.

 

Program Overview
This course is designed to provide students an opportunity to immerse themselves in the media rich environment of New York. Students will visit major news organizations like the NBC Studios at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, and tour historical newspaper sites to learn about the evolution in the media industry. The group will also meet media professionals working in New York who will share their experiences and provide students career advice. Students will also get the opportunity with the group or during their free time to visit famous New York sites and experiences, such as a Broadway show, Statue of Liberty, World Trade Center tour, and more.

Instructor Information
Dr. Sadaf Ali is a Professor of 
Electronic Media and Film Studies in the School of Communication, Media and Theatre Arts here at EMU. She is a former television and radio news reporter and has worked for mainstream and ethnic media in Michigan and Ohio. She has led several travel programs including locations to New York, England and Spain. Dr. You Li is a Professor of Journalism at Eastern Michigan University. Her research interests include media history, media sociology, media management, and global journalism. Her research traces the historical and contemporary evolvement of journalism with a particular emphasis on the autonomous and heteronomous forces that shape the journalism boundaries.
