Becoming Global Citizens in Ecuador
|Course(s):||EDLD 479 or EDLD 592|
|Eligibility:||Open to all EMU undergraduate and graduate students in good academic standing and guest students. Must be at least 18 years old at the time of travel.|
Ecuador is one of the most bio-diverse countries you can visit. This program takes you to Quito, the country's capital, which was one of the first World Cultural Heritage Sites. Described as the "most beautiful big city in South America," you'll find everything from stunning views to amazing food, with plenty to see and do during your time there.
This program explores Ecuador from a multi-disciplinary perspective (not just education), with a particular emphasis on the idea of developing global citizens. Examine current challenges and opportunities as you watch films, read articles and stories, meet guest speakers and travel on local excursions. You'll compare and contrast the higher education system in Ecuador with the U.S. as you reflect upon these issues from a global perspective.
- Visit the best preserved colonial center in the world.
- Spend a day exploring the Mindo Cloud Forest.
- Travel to the exact center point of the world.
- Meet students, staff and scholars at local universities.
Raul Leon, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Educational Leadership at Eastern Michigan University. He teaches various graduate courses for the Educational Leadership program and has been taking students to Ecuador to study abroad for several years.
