Open to all undergraduate and graduate students in good academic standing. Must be at least 18 years old at the time of travel.
Travel to Brest in northwestern France and spend six weeks learning intensive French language over the summer. Previous French language experience is not required for participation as there are various levels of instruction offered from beginner to advanced. Classroom instruction by qualified and experienced teachers emphasizes the spoken language and is combined with hands-on activities both in and out of the classroom. Classes are taught in small groups so that students receive individualized attention.
Classes are taught through The Centre International d'Etude des Langues (CIEL). The program also includes a day trip to Mont St. Michele and other local excursions.
Housing and Meals
Students stay with a host family near the school for additional cultural and language experience. Home stays include three meals a day with the family.
Instructor Information Genevieve Peden, Ph.D., professor of French at EMU, handles all student coordination for this intensive language program.
