Program Description:

Nazi Germany: History & Memory

Credits: Three (3)
Eligibility: Open to all EMU students in good academic standing and guest students. Must be at least 18 years old at the time of travel.

Program Overview
Discover Germany as you examine in-depth the National Socialist (Nazi) government of Germany and its policies during WWII and the Holocaust. In addition, due attention will be given to less well-known aspects of the Nazi period, such as the impact of the Nazis’ biological theories on the arts and culture in the Third Reich. 

Program Highlights
  • Lectures and tours in historical sites such as Dachau concentration camp, Holocaust Memorial,  and the 1936 Berlin Olympics Stadium 
  • Day trip to Nuremberg
  • Explore Wannsee Haus, where the “Final Solution” was planned
Instructor Information
Jesse Kauffman, Ph.D. is an Asssociate Professor in the Department of History and Philosophy at Eastern Michigan University. He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses on Western Civilization, modern German history, European military history and historical research and writing. He also recently released his book, Elusive Alliance: The German Occupation of Poland in World War I.

On-Campus Class Meetings
This program has mandatory class meetings during Winter semester prior to departure. Meeting dates will be determined and announced to students accepted into the program.
