Sophomore standing or above with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Students should have an interest in Korean language and culture.* Must be at least 18 years old at time of travel.


Program Overview
EMU's exchange program with Korea University - Sejong Campus offers undergraduate students the opportunity to take classes for a semester or year alongside other international and Korean students. As an exchange student you can also participate in cultural activities on campus or join university clubs and circles.   

Korea University offers students a broad range of courses in areas that include business, economics, global sport studies, public administration, science and technology. All exchange students are required to take a 3 credit Korean language and 3 credit Korean culture course. These courses satisfy two of EMU's General Education requirements: global awareness and humanities. All coursework may be applied to your academic major, minor or general education requirements with approval from the appropriate departments.

Financial Support is Provided through the International Town at Sejong (ITS) program 

  • Free dormitory and meals (2 meals per day) during the semester
  • ITS Program Scholarship to partially reimburse your airfare (Students from US and UK partner universities receive: 1,400,000 KRW)
  • Reside with two Korean students in a 3 bedroom dormitory
  • 1:1 mutual mentoring sessions with KU students
  • Participate in ITS club, field trips, and diverse cultural immersion programs
  • Countless opportunities to make new friends from around the world


Housing and Meals
Korea University provides campus housing and dining options for exchange students at the student's expense. All housing fees and most meals (about 2/3) are waived for EMU students who participate in ITS program.

Visa Requirements
Upon acceptance to the program Korea University will provide you with the materials necessary to apply and obtain a D-2 student visa. Be sure to review visa guidelines for studying in Korea before you apply. Be aware that you may be required to obtain your visa in-person from the nearest consulate (usually Chicago, IL).

Application Notes
This program requires a dual application process in which both EMU and Korea University must approve students to participate. You will receive notification to complete the Korea University application upon approval from EMU. 

Financial Aid and Scholarships
Financial aid and many EMU scholarships may be applied to the tuition and fees for this approved program. Visit the Office of Financial Aid for more information on how to use your financial aid and scholarships to help cover the costs of studying abroad. Students with a minimum 2.8 GPA and a demonstrated financial need can apply for the Freeman-ASIA scholarship. Find information on national and EMU scholarships specifically for students that wish to study abroad at emich.edu/abroad/financialaid/scholarships.

*Students must have completed at least one semester at EMU within the last 12 months and be in good academic standing to be eligible to apply for semester/year programs.
